Prof. Bosch is is a zoologist and comparative developmental biologist at Kiel University, Germany. His research focuses on the evolution and functioning of metaorganisms. A central question of his work is what interactions exist between animals and their co-evolved microorganisms, how these relationships have evolved, and the mechanisms by which they are regulated. Thomas will give a guest lecture at the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences titled "A Microbial Perspective on Animal Development and Behaviour”. You can read more about it here.

Reflections on Past Events
This session highlighted key initiatives within the Holomicrobiome ecosystem and recent advances in microbiome research for food and health. It addressed challenges in translating science to industry alongside the regulatory and policy frameworks shaping the field. You can read more about it here.
Thesis title: “Advancing mechanistic ecotoxicology with lipidomics: linking lipid metabolic pathways to phenotypic outcomes in terrestrial arthropods and freshwater snails under chemical exposure.”
Diana is currently a postdoc in the ME group, where she investigates the impact of agricultural practices on gut microbiome health. Her work is part of the KIC Soils2Gut consortium.
Markus will work on a project aimed at deciphering how microbial metabolic signatures identified in a large human cohort of traveler’s diarrhea influence the acceleration of gut motility, using the IntestiFlow ex vivo model. This project is funded by MLDS and carried out in collaboration with Maastricht University.
This year’s theme is “From Who We Are to What We Can Achieve Together.” During the Kick-off event in 2025, we focused on understanding who we are as individual researchers and professionals. This year, we focus on what we can achieve together, embracing a transdisciplinary approach that connects research, industry, and education across human, plant, soil, and aquatic microbiomes, the full scope of Amsterdam’s ONEHealth network. You can read more about it here.
Sahar and Markus participated as a tafelwetenschapper at the Avond van Wetenschap & Maatschappij
They moderated a discussion table on: "Whose body is it, anyway? Reimagining health through the gut microbiome". This event brought together scientists and society to explore pressing scientific and societal questions. During the evening, the Irispenning; a prize recognizing outstanding societal engagement by researchers, was awarded

Meal to Mind – The Power of Gut Health
A successful evening full of insights and interaction
On February 13, 2025, Meal to Mind: The Transformative Power of Gut Health took place in the Koningszaal at ARTIS, welcoming nearly 170 attendees. The evening focused on the connection between nutrition, the microbiome, and (mental) health, and how we can translate this knowledge into both public health and everyday life. You can read more about it here.
